Geothermal energy is a type of energy resource that is not only renewable but is also pollution free. The geothermal energy is the energy is the heat that exists inside the earth. The geothermal energy can be harnessed with the help of the geothermal heat pump. The geothermal heat pump is currently replacing the furnaces that help in heating the house during the winter and also the reverse function of replacing the air conditioner.

The three main components in the geothermal energy heat pump are the loop field, the liquid pack pump and the water heat source pump. The loop field is installed in the ground and then passed on into the house. The liquid pump is a pump that uses the least energy possible and circulates the water through the loop field. This water does the important job of transporting the heat to and for. The water source heat pump is the replacement for the initial hater, furnace or the air conditioner.

The standing column well is a type of the open loop field system which is a type of the geothermal heat pump. The open loop field system does not contain any working fluid. Water, that acts as the working fluid is taken directly from a natural source of water near to the building. The water enters the geothermal heat pump and the heat from the building is either extracted from the water to heat the building or the heat is deposited in the water in order to cool the house.

The standing column well is actually the source of the water. The standing column well is drilled when the bead rock lies in the range of 150 to 200 feet from the surface of the earth. When the water is extracted from the well the heat energy is pulled out from the water in winter or it is either deposited in the water in the days of summer. Then the water is returned to the well.

The standing column well is drilled in when the geothermal heat pump is undertaking a large urban application. It is often used in the rural areas in case of existing wells.
