Operation Of Geothermal Heating Systems

As the name suggests this energy is obtained from the Geo thermal sources. That is beneath the Earth's surface. Now let us understand the main principle behind the utilization of this energy. A few feet beneath the Earth's surface the temperature remains fairly constant irrespective of the Weather conditions above.

This feature of Earth is used as an advantage by providing efficient heating and cooling.

The major advantage of Geothermal Energy is that it is renewable. This source of Energy is used by the Romans to heat the buildings. In Geo thermal energy water acts as the conduction medium. It conducts heat from the ground to air and vice-a-versa. Let us see the working of geothermal pipes in detail.

Working of Geo thermal Pumps:

The main objective of the Geo thermal pumps is to extract the heat energy from the ground and transfer it in the building. This transfer requires a cycle of evaporation followed by condensation and then expansion. So as this cycle is similar to a refrigerator a refrigerant is used as a medium to transfer heat.

The cycle of heating starts at the moment when the liquid refrigerant which is obviously cold passes through a water-refrigerant heat exchanger. It then absorbs heat from the source of low temperature resulting into its evaporation of gas at that instant. Then the refrigerant is pressurized in a compressor the temperature is increased to 180 degree F.

The hot gas is then circulated from refrigerant to the air heat exchanger. The air heat exchanger removes the heat by passing cooler air over it. This enables to deliver warm air in the building through the blower and the duct system. Production of hot water is the by product of the heating process this by product is also delivered to the heater to the pumps.

Heating during winters:

A loop of pipes is installed through the area outside the house which is obviously under the frost line. The heat sink which is created is used to heat your house in winters and vice-a-versa. In winters the heat from beneath the frost line is carried to a compression area where it is compressed and distributed to your house.

Cooling During summer season:

In summer season it is required to take the heat form the residential area to the Earth loop situated outside the house.

This process is very simple, efficient, cost effective and renewable due to these reasons it is becoming popular day by day.
