Nuclear medicine and MRI go hand in hand. Magnetic resource imaging and nuclear medicine are the two advanced imaging tests, which help in diagnosing disorder or dysfunction in any part of the body.

Magnetic Resource imaging is a method of taking pictures of internal organs of a human body. However, it does not use any radiation to capture images. Instead, it uses strong magnetic properties that will generate magnetic field. This will help the body's natural magnetic properties and radio waves to emit an image that will be later recorded. This is safe and will not harm the person in any way.

Nuclear medicine involves a process of taking images of organs by administering small amount of radiation into the patient's body through intravenous needle or by oral tablet. The radiation will then emit gamma rays, which will be captured by gamma cameras. The doctor will then view the clear images to diagnose the disease in the patient's body.

Nuclear medicine is different from MRI since it not only shows the internal organs but also the functioning of the organs. The radiation used here is in small amount and so it is not dangerous to health. Again, the radioactive substance will not stay in the body for longer period. It will be eliminated through urine or stool.

Though both nuclear medicine and MRI are advanced technologies used in imaging tests, nuclear medicine is far better than MRI. It helps in diagnosing small infections, bleeding in lungs etc. It will help in diagnosing the cancer growth also. Sometimes cancer growth may affect the bones also. It will be clearly shown by nuclear medicine scans.

Nuclear medicine scans are often used to view liver, heart, lungs and thyroid glands. This type of medicine is a harmless and painless method of diagnosis. It also helps in the treatment of cancer particularly in controlling the pain experienced by cancer patients. Though it is safe, it is not recommended for pregnant women and feeding mothers. Nuclear medicine uses computed tomography to get improved quality of images. It is used for detecting multiple tumors, which is not possible through any other imaging tests.
