Geothermal heat pumps are basically electrically powered device that uses energy stored in earth's crust in the form of heat. As all heat pumps does this geothermal heat pump also moves heat energy from one place to another. Geothermal heat pumps transports heat from earth or earth's groundwater and transfer it to your home or office.

Heat energy is extracted from earth used by liquid flowing through pipes; liquid used may be water or refrigerant or antifreeze solution and it is pumped to heat pump and then this heat is used to heat homes in summer days indoor heat is extracted from home and then transferred to earth with help of liquid.

There three main components of the geothermal heating systems, loop field property, water source heat pump and liquid pump pack. Loop field is actually a network of tubes. This loop network can be installed horizontally or vertically there are many different types of loop systems are available. There are mainly twp types of loop systems Closed loop system and Open loop systems. Closed loop system is a commonly used system which has a fluid which circulated through loop pipes.

When you consider lifespan of geothermal heat pumps it includes lifespan of complete system including loops and pumps. Usually geothermal heat system is designed for average age 24 years. Durability of system also mainly depends upon loops; for long lasting purpose pipes are usually made up of high density polyethylene or polybutylene pipes. Properly installed pipes will last for 60-75 years. They should be made up of material which would have good conducting capacity.

Average life span of geo thermal pump is 20 years so even the pumps last for many years. If maintain properly there is no need of replacing pump in at least 15-20 years. Geothermal heat pump can be installed in any part of country and it will save money. By installing this system there will be less emission as they will decrease use of fossil fuel for cooling and heating system. Though initially this system is bit expensive but it will very cost effective and will give best value for money.
