Ground Source Heating System
Ground source heating system is a geothermal heat pumps system. This system uses heat energy stored in earth's crust and groundwater. This system uses land masses as a heat exchanger. This system just transfers heat whereas conventional furnace produces heat. Constant rise in cost and pollution caused by conventional furnaces this ground source system is best solution.
There are basically three components of the system loop field, liquid pump and water source heat pump. Let's have a general overview of these components.
Loop fields transfers heat to and from ground. There are mainly two types of loop fields closed loop fields and open loop fields. Closed loop system is most common and has pipes that circulate fluid, water or anti freezing fluid through them. There are four common types of close loop system vertical, horizontal, slinky and pond type.
Horizontal close loop fields have closed a pipe that runs horizontally. A long horizontal trench is dug and these coils are placed inside that trench. This type of horizontal loop fields is very common and very economical if there is adequate space available.
Open loop field pulls water from lake or pond. Water is pumped from these sources into heat pump; in this heat pumps heat is extracted. Water is dumped back into some other position or returned to earth. This open loop field does not pollute the water pulled out from well or pond.
Even there are many different type of water source heat pumps; water to air heat pumps, water to water heat pumps and hybrids pumps. Water to air pumps is central unit which produces heat during winter and air conditioning during summer. Water to water heat pump utilizes hot water for heating building. A hybrid pump produces forced air heat and hot water together or individually.
Though Geothermal heating systems are three times expensive than traditional heating systems but they are very cheap to run and maintain; so afterward maintenance cost is reduced and most important of all they are eco friendly. Geothermal energy is very safe source of energy and it is very eco friendly.
