Geothermal District Heating Schemes

Geothermal heating scheme is actually heating system that uses heat energy present in earth crust for heating or cooling. Geothermal word is combination of two Greek words Geo means earth and "Thermal" means heat; so geothermal means energy obtained from earth's crust.

In many areas around the world where there is very significant geological activities are seen in such areas phenomenon like warm water sent to above ground because of high pressure is used to heat pipes. Such type of geothermal energy is used by many countries that have brought their power plants in such a way that heat is directly absorbed from hot water; energy is obtained due to conductivity of that water and is then directly send to customers.

In Turkey and Italy has centralized use of direct heating using geo-thermally heated water. All these geothermal systems are installed in mountainous province and districts those are impoverished due to lack of arable land. This system has improved winter living conditions all over these regions.

Some projects are experimental and receive funding from government and non government organizations for research in area of renewable energy.

Geothermal energy is very safe source of energy and it is very eco friendly. Since there is tremendous rise in prices of other energy sources like oil it has proven to be very competitive. They have large initial investment but it is recovered in very short period of time. These system runs for year with very low maintenance cost. Biggest investment in such project is heating pipes used to carry heated water, high quality material is needed for such type of pipes.

Areas with very high geological activities are ideal for such geothermal district systems since heat released in such activities can be used for geothermal systems compared to areas where there are not much geological activities are seen. Using earth temperature you can easily heat or cool your residential or business place with minimum investment.

Many of such plants are successfully working in areas of geological activities and many European countries are now shown interest in district wide heating schemes with pipe buried in ponds, lakes or soil which provide heating and cooling as and when required.
