Differential Diagnosis In Nuclear Medicines

Differential diagnosis in nuclear medicines includes many steps. Nuclear medicine is a therapy of using nuclear elements to diagnose diseases. In order to understand the exact problem in the body, the doctor cannot perform surgery every time. However, clear diagnosis is essential to identify the exact medical condition. Nuclear medicine solves all the problems. It helps in differential diagnosis of diseases in various parts of the body.

The doctor will inject radiopharmaceutical into the patient's body or ask the patient to swallow the medicine. Radiopharmaceutical is a small amount of radioactive compounds. Then the doctor will diagnose the disease with the help of sensitive camera.

Images taken by the camera will help the doctor to view the blood flow or metabolic processes. This scan will show any abnormalities in bone, blood vessels or in glands.

Differential diagnosis in nuclear medicine helps in identifying fine bone fractures, which is not possible to detect with help of an x-ray. It also helps in detecting the problems with blood flow and helps to predict heart attack.

Nuclear medicine also helps in locating tumor and locating any metabolic changes that may cause cancer. It will also help in identifying injuries and other chronic diseases. It can also diagnose blood clots, infections and any dysfunction in any part of organ.

Differential diagnosis testing in nuclear medicine is performed in two ways. They are called as Vivo and in Vitro tests. Nuclear medicine is more useful in diagnosing oral and maxillofacial diseases.

Nuclear scanning test: Nuclear scanning test uses special camera often called as gamma, to take pictures of tissues and organs in the body. A radioactive compound is injected in the vein through the arm of a patient's body. Different radioactive compounds are required to diagnose parts of the body. It shows the activities and functions of tissues and organs in the body. Though radioactive material can harm the health, it will stay temporarily in the body. It will be passed out in urine or stool.

Nuclear scan test is useful in diagnosing number of diseases instantly. Bone scan, kidney scan, gallbladder scan, gallium scan, vein scan, salivary gland scan and much more tests are possible with nuclear medicine.
