Components Of Geothermal Heating Systems

Geothermal heating system is heating and or an air conditioning system that works on earth's ability to store heat in the ground and water thermal masses. This heating system is also called ground source heat pumps; they are long alternative for conventional heating and cooling systems.

Ground heat pump is device that transfers heat from one source to another; in this case these pumps pull heat from the earth and transfer it to homes or building. These pumps provide both heating and cooling. Cooling system just takes out heat from building and returns it to Earth.

There are three main components of Geothermal heating system; Loop field on the property, water source heat pump and liquid pump pack. Loop field is actually a network of tubes; sometimes these are also referred as closed loops. These loops are filled with water, refrigerant or anti freeze solution. They usually run from ground near buildings or houses; flowing liquid from tubes absorbs Earth's heat energy. Usually one loop has capacity of one ton usual house requires 3 to 5 tons capacity.

Second component is liquid pump. This pump collects heated liquid is then sent to building or houses using pump systems. This pump unit has condenser fitted outside and evaporator coil inside, loop completely filled with refrigerant buried outside and inside ductwork is there along with some other electric components a circulating pump is required. These pumps are bit expensive but they are give complete value for money. These pumps are very economical to run and maintain, efficiency rate of these pumps are very high and most important they are environmental friendly.

Last component of geothermal heating systems is water source heat pumps which are alternative for furnace or boiler. In this part actually heat is transferred for heating. These pumps captures heat at one temperature reservoir and it transfers it to another temperature reservoir.

Though Geothermal heating systems are three times expensive than traditional heating systems but they are very cheap to run and maintain; so afterward maintenance cost is reduced and most important of all they are eco friendly.
