Many years after the industrial revolution man kind has suddenly realized the drawbacks of the excessive use of fossil fuels and the pollution caused by them. The geothermal energy is one such resource. The heat energy that exists under the surface of the earth is known as the geothermal energy. The geo thermal energy can be harnessed with the help of Geothermal heat Pumps.

The geothermal heat pump is widely being used as a heater in the cold countries and as a cooler in the hot nations. The geothermal heat pump circulates water in the loop field which in partially buried under the earth the unburied part is wound inside the house in a grid. The water circulating through the loop field conditions the temperature inside the building. The water inside the loop acts as a carrier of heat. In cold countries the heat is carried from inside the surface of the earth to the building and in the hot countries the heat is carried inside the earth from the building.

There are three major components in the geothermal heat pumps the loop field, liquid pump and the water source heat pump.

There are different types of the loop field which is actually a grid of pipes that runs in and out of the building and the earth.

The closed kind of loop system circulates the water in the loop field pipes. There in on contact between the heat carrying fluid and the earth. Only the heat transfer takes place in the loop field and the earth.

There are four types of the loop fields, they are vertical, horizontal, slinky and the pond.

In a horizontal closed loop field the pipes run horizontally inside the ground. Below the frost line a trench is dug horizontally and the coils which are u shaped are placed in a horizontal manner are laid inside. The width of the field depends on the loops.

These kinds of loop fields are very common. The horizontal loop fields are very convenient to use when the land available is adequate.
